Conference on peace education at UNESCO Headquarters in Paris
Co-organized by the Association d’Éducation pour la Paix (France) and the Club de Málaga para la UNESCO “Educación, Cultura y Paz” (Spain), Federación Española de Asociaciones y Clubes para la UNESCO, in partnership with the Spanish Permanent Delegation to UNESCO (Spain), the Fundación Cultura de Paz (Spain), and the United Nations University for Peace (Costa Rica). The event will serve as a global platform to share ideas, inspire action, and foster lasting commitment to a culture of peace.
Key objetives
Raise Public Awareness Inspire greater understanding and appreciation of peace education across civil society, emphasizing its role as a cornerstone for building a more just and harmonious world.
Engage Esteemed Voices Invite distinguished and widely respected speakers to share their experience, insights, and vision—bringing credibility, inspiration, and diverse perspectives to the dialogue.

Advance a Global Call Put forward and consolidate the proposal for a United Nations International Day of Peace Education, positioning it as a shared aspiration and a rallying point for future action.
Rationale and contexts
In a world where conflict too often overshadows cooperation, the need for concrete peace building solutions in civil society has never been more pressing. Yet, awareness and understanding of peace—and of peace education—remain limited. This reality calls for a united front among educators, advocates, and organizations to position peace not as a distant ideal, but as a practical, actionable path forward.
Guided by UNESCO’s 2023 recommendations, this proposal champions the conviction that peace begins within each individual. By cultivating empathy, dialogue, and mutual respect at the personal level, we lay the first stones of a lasting culture of peace. The vision extends beyond the event itself: to establish the foundation for a future United Nations International Day of Peace Education, giving this mission a global voice and permanence.
Peace is a culture, an education in a different way of seeing and reacting to the world.
– Federico Mayor Zaragoza
